Host your event in Hudson River Park!

Featuring dozens of unique locations, we proudly host special events of all sorts and sizes, ranging from fashion shows, athletic events, product launches and promotions to weddings, corporate events, fundraisers and more. If you are dreaming of an outdoor setting for your event, we can help you bring it to life!

Information & Application

Hudson River Park requires permits for commercial activities regardless of size and for any activity for which a specific space in the Park is requested to be reserved, including for activities or events less than 20 people.

Permits differ and are issued based on the type and scale of the event.

 

 

 

Permit Types

Small Gatherings
An organized group of 20 to 100 people coming together for a picnic, birthday party, etc. This permit also covers classes, marriage proposals and weddings.
Filming and Photography
All commercial filming and/or photography, including student groups.
Special Events
Events and gatherings of more than 100 people, commercial events regardless of size or events with significant infrastructure that require privatization of Park spaces.
Athletic Fields
A Permit is required for 20 people coming together to practice/play games.

 

Permit Application

Before submitting an Event Application, please review the following:

  • Permit applications (non-refundable $25 application fee) must be submitted at least 21 business days in advance of your requested date, though a longer lead time is encouraged.
  • Additional permit fees are based on the location and event type.
  • Submitting an application does not guarantee you will be granted a permit.

 

Once issued, Permittees are responsible for removing all garbage from the area and for adhering to the Park’s Rules and Regulations. In addition, all marketing, signage, advertising, and outreach for events must be approved by Park staff prior to their public release. Do not advertise events without direct approval from Park staff.

Small Gathering Permit

Small Gathering Permits encompass picnics, birthdays and corporate gatherings, with a maximum 100 people.

Please note the following:

  • Small Gathering Permits do not grant exclusivity.
  • A permit fee is required in addition to the $25 application fee.
  • One small battery-powered speaker and up to two tables on the pavement may be permitted.

Special Event Permit

Special Event Permits encompass events with more than 100 people and commercial events regardless of size, this includes multi-day events, full Pier rental, concerts, fashion shows and more.

Please note the following:

  • Special Event Permits may grant exclusivity.
  • Amplified sound and additional infrastructure (tents, stages, set pieces, etc.) are permitted subject to approval and additional permitting where required.
  • Insurance is required and varies based on the nature and the scale of the event.

Film and Photography Permit

The Park has many beautiful views that serve as a perfect backdrop for film or photography! Film and Photography Permits are required for all commercial shoots and any shoots involving more than one handheld device.

Please note the following:

  • Film and photography permits do not grant exclusive use.
  • Student film/photo shoots will not be charged a fee but student ID and insurance are required.
  • Film/photo shoots with extensive gear or sets will require a Special Event Permit.

    Please note that this is to help with planning only; dates cannot be confirmed until permit applications have been received and accepted. Permits are not issued on holidays or holiday weekends. Special event permits must be applied for at least 21 days in advance of the proposed event. Film/Photography permits are not issued on weekends or holidays. All wedding ceremony permit applications for the upcoming year will open on December 1 of the current year.

    Please note that decorations and set-up of an event must be approved by Hudson River Park. Cooking equipment (grills, sternos, etc.) cannot be brought into the Park. Decorations like chalk, confetti, powders, glitter, balloons, or any other similar substance cannot be used in the Park.
