Pier 64 and the upland park to Pier 66 were opened in Spring 2009. The two remaining piers in the Chelsea section of Hudson River Park are under construction. Once open, this area will be one of the major jewels in Hudson River Park.
The central upland area will include a large green lawn "bowl," a spectacular garden designed by Lynden Miller, and a landscape art boulder field by the artist Meg Webster. The rebuilt Pier 62 will include a signature carousel with a green roof as well as a new skate park facility. Open landscaping and seating will enliven the western end of the pier. To the immediate north, a wide waterside esplanade and seating area will be located at Pier 63, in a space once occupied by a large buliding that was demolished to create the park.
Long, green Pier 64 provides exceptional views to the north and south. Among the pier's special design features is a tree grove oriented to entice park goers to explore the pier's western end.
