 Segment 7 is the
northernmost section of Hudson
River Park,
and the first to be developed on the city-owned portion of the project.
Segment 7 began construction between 54th
St. and 57th
Street in 2003, and opened in May 2005.
It includes a large grassy area known as "Clinton
Cove", which features a boathouse and kayak launch at Pier 96, a get-down at Pier
95 for sitting near and enjoying the river, and ultimately, Pier
97 which will be used primarily for active recreation and historic
ships. Construction of Pier 97 cannot commence until the Department
of Sanitation trucks currently located on that pier can be relocated
to a new garage.
