Hudson River Park began its construction phase in 1998. The five-mile area from Battery Place to 59^th Street along Manhattan's west side is broken into construction segments that share common design elements such as the railing and esplanade treatments, as well as uniquely designed playgrounds, art, boathouses, and historic interpretive installations.
