2014 marks Hudson River Park’s RiverRocks 16th Season. RiverRocks is among New York City’s quintessential free outdoor summer concert series and features established and breaking artists performing at the beautiful Pier 84.
Teenage Fanclub The once rambunctious alternative rockers, with their timeless jangly fuzz-laced power pop songs and stellar reputation, have matured into wise elder statesmen that keep creating new music that matters.
Honeyblood The Scottish duo makes fast and furious grunge racket, and despite their fledgling status and minimal setup, their songs are fully formed and perfectly assured. The band’s much anticipated self-titled LP is out July 14 on FatCat Records. With nothing extraneous, their music is driven through tightly-bound instrumentals and laced with the sheer strength and beauty of Stina Marie Claire Tweeddale’s voice and Shona McVicar’s drums. The songs resonate with deep melodic hooks and the kind of effortless charm that have drawn recent comparisons to the likes of Best Coast, Haim and Frankie Rose, as well as the swooning, strident delivery of more established artists like Jenny Lewis.
Saint Rich Pivoting from the success of the indie cult-favorite Delicate Steve, Steve Marion and Christian Peslak have transformed their 10-year musical partnership to a new incarnation dubbed Saint Rich. Previously, Peslak provided the rhythmic guitar bedrock to Marion’s wandering melody lines. As Saint Rich, the two have switched roles, with Marion as the bedrock for Pesalk’s wanderings as evident in the duo’s debut album Beyond the Drone. Critics say, “Saint Rich evokes two legends of guitar-pop: Big Star and the Kinks.”
