Sandy Volunteer Reunion
Saturday, Nov 16, 10am-1pm
Meet in front of Pier 40
Cross at W. Houston St.
This time last year Park staff was astounded by an overwhelming outpour of support from hundreds of people as well as numerous community and corporate groups eager to assist Park staff in repairing the damage left behind by superstorm Sandy. In the weeks following this memorable storm, Park volunteers worked tirelessly with our staff to clear thousands of pounds of trash, silt and other debris. Volunteers also revived saltwater drowned plant beds with much needed soil and mulch.
By the numbers, over 500 volunteers distributed 300 cubic yards of mulch (enough to fill three 18-wheeler loads), 80 cubic yards of soil, and over 5000 bulbs which bloomed the following spring. This amazing show of community support contributed to the quick return of the Park’s horticultural grounds to normal.
On Saturday November 16th from 10am until 1pm, Hudson River Park will hold a volunteer event to commemorate the efforts of the many neighborhood volunteers who contributed to restoration efforts in November and December of last year. Activities will include mulch distribution and bulb planting. Gloves and tools will be provided, but participants should come dressed for the weather. Space is limited, so RSVP today.
