The Hudson River is a vital Estuary
and is either home to or a stopping point for over 200 species of
fish. Some of these fish make their nurseries in the piles underneath
the Park piers, other benthic fish stay near the bottom of the river
year-round, and still others utilize the center of the channel as
they pass from freshwater to saltwater. Whether fishing for stripers
or blues, Hudson River Park provides miles of waterfront access
to accommodate you.
The Trust runs free fishing programs during the summer (rod and
reel provided). We also provide programs to visiting classes throughout
the school year. We invite you to take part in these programs, or
come out and fish on your own!
Although a NYS fishing license is not required for fishing in this
area of the Hudson, there are restrictions on the minimum size of
the fish, daily possession limit, and a specified open fishing season
for each fish species. A link to the NYS fishing regulations is
listed on the right; it is updated yearly.
