Swimming in the Hudson River along the park
is only permitted with a Coast Guard-registered swim race.
If you're interested in participating in
an official Hudson River race, contact our partner, Manhattan
Island Foundation. You can sign up for one or more of six
swims held annually from June – September. The swims either
start or finish in the Park and range in length from .5 to 7.8
miles. If you're really strong, you can also compete in the Manhattan
Island marathon swim which is 28 miles in length. All of the races
are timed with a favorable current in the Hudson. The swims have
been developed to serve both experienced and novice open water
swimmers. Each swim requires submission of qualifications which
can be met through pool swimming and/or previous open water experience,
depending on the length of the swim.
For indoor swimming, Chelsea
Piers at Pier 61 features
a 25 yard, six lane swimming pool.
