Video: Improv Everywhere and ESPN surprise kids at Pier 25 with the Mini-Golf Open

July 19

This week, NYC-based Improv Everywhere teamed up with ESPN and Hudson River Park to give some unsuspecting mini-golfers the MVP treatment. Staking out Pier 25, the comedy group brought in caddies, commentators, an ESPN camera crew, an adoring crowd, and one very special trophy to make these golfers’ mini-match a major championship.

The crew surprised mini-golfers as they navigated the tricky “loopty-loop” portion of the 18-hole course. Players, who ranged from toddlers to adults, were assigned caddies. Mini-Golf Open “staff” held up quiet signs to the crowd as the official ESPN camera crew captured the action. Members of the troupe provided color commentary for the filmed event, and ESPN personality Jorge Andres interviewed the day's many winners.

Champs were presented with the real Claret Jug, the trophy given to winners of The British Open. The Jug was making a stop in New York on an ESPN tour, and was offered to Improv Everywhere for their skit.

The video, posted July 16, has already received over 300,000 views. The event has been covered by the Huffington Post, Yahoo News, and USA Today, among others.
