Edison for delivery by barge of fuel oil. Pier 99 is a

In the
future
Once the Sanitation trucks currently located on Pier 97 can
be relocated to their new inland home, Pier 97 will be rebuilt
as a public pier and incorporated within Clinton Cove. Amenities
on Pier 97 will include courts for active recreation, a playground
and a lawn. Pier 97 will also be used to berth historic ships.
Piers 98 and 99 will continue to be used for water-dependant uses
by Con Edison and the Department of Sanitation.
Historical
Note
The Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum is the "world's largest
floating classroom," where students and teachers can immerse
themselves in history. The World War II aircraft carrier U.S.S.
Intrepid (a National Historic Landmark) once carried 3,300
men and as many as 103 aircraft. Today, vintage airplanes stand
wing-to-wing beside modern jets, including the A-12 Blackbird
supersonic spy plane. One of the retired Concorde planes has recently
been added to the Intrepid Museum.
