Opened to the public in 2010

Piers 62 and 64 frame Pier 63 and the adjacent Pier 63 Lawn Bowl to form the largest contiguous open green space in Hudson River Park. It’s perfect for leisurely picnicking, sunbathing, reading, Frisbee playing and general lounging around. Children adore rolling and running on the hill, or visiting the nearby carousel.

Landscaping at and adjacent to Pier 63 is lush, and many Park visitors are surprised at its expansive scale. Meandering paths create opportunities for discovery, including the landscape sculpture created by artist Meg Webster, Stonefield. The sculpture consists of a “boulder field” of large stones with special shapes and unusual sculptural qualities.

Sustainable Design

Hudson River Park’s sustainable design was put to the test during Hurricane Sandy in October 2012. At the hurricane’s peak, 60 percent of the Park was inundated with as much as five feet of saltwater. Aside from minor damage to some vegetation, the Lawn Bowl’s careful design and durable construction allowed it to survive the storm virtually unscathed.
