FRIENDS OF HUDSON RIVER PARK'S ANNUAL GALA CELEBRATION
Friends of Hudson River Park’s glittering Gala on Thursday, Oct. 8th sparked stupendous support and sincere celebration. With profound partnership and generosity from over 1,000 donors and guests, more than $2.8 million was raised for the continued care and ongoing, exciting expansion of Hudson River Park, this incredible recreational oasis in our backyard, helping to ensure that we are and will always be New York’s Park for Play.
Cocktails by the Carousel at Pier 62 buzzed brightly in the crisp evening air as the festive crowd enjoyed roaming Oyster Shuckers, casting off into the Hudson with Big City Fishing, and a dazzling water show from a passing boat parade. Capping off cocktails was the Cobra Performing Arts Marching Band, whose dynamic drummers lead our community of Park supporters on a shared journey from Pier 62’s exuberant cocktail scene to Pier Sixty’s lavish dinner program.
Top Chef’s Padma Lakshmi, our Emmy-nominated hostess with the mostest, led the festivities amid a packed hall with Friends. Honored for their outstanding commitment to the Park’s development was Chelsea Piers, on the occasion of their 20th Anniversary, the inimitable and charming Martha Stewart, and Vice Chair of Friends’ Board of Directors, Scott Lawin, one of the true Hudson River Park heroes! The Gala stage welcomed many luminaries to present “Keys to the Park” including Olympic figure skater Sarah Hughes, the inspiring Senator Chuck Schumer, and the hysterically witty Late Night host Seth Meyers.
The night’s exhilarating auction, helmed by Billy Harris and sponsored by Delta, saw winners taking home extravagant Roman travel packages, a private luncheon hosted by culinary forces David Chang and Martha Stewart, and an exclusive party aboard Grand Banks hosted by Anthony Bourdain, among other exciting lots. Lucky donors also claimed one-of-a-kind Carousel Creations, with loving dedications on our enchanting Pier 62 Carousel. (There is still time to claim your Creation, too. Even the Butterfly Unicorns and coveted Oyster Chariot are still up for grabs!)
At the end of the night, our devoted community of Park champions again marched together into the raucous after-party concert where The Dolls spun tunes and The B-52’s truly blew the roof off of our “Love Shack.”
As sensational and stellar as our Gala celebration was, the ultimate star of the show was clearly Hudson River Park. The outpouring of affection for our incomparable waterfront paradise was overwhelming and heartwarming. To our many wonderful Friends who joined the celebration: the impact of your contribution is extraordinary and helps guide Hudson River Park toward continued success. Thank you!
The Friends of Hudson River Park Gala has always been a premier event in NYC, joining Friends from myriad communities and all facets of industries for one unifying purpose: to celebrate this tremendous treasure in our own backyard and lend support to its continued growth and vibrant future.
